Tea Party women may prove to be the counterpoint to the “Single Mom” demographic courted during the 2008 Presidential Election.
Tea Party women are older, whiter and angrier, and some are, dare I mention it, menopausal. These disconnected, stay-at-home, Christian moms were looking forward to a few years of peace before retirement, but life and reality caught up with them and maybe even passed a few by. Their youth is gone, their looks are gone, and unless things change, the chance to retire in comfort is gone. The economy forced their kids to return and their nest eggs and homes to devalue, and some have unemployed husbands hanging around the house collecting unemployment and worker’s comp. And that makes them angry and wondering who’s to blame?
Many of these women have not yet given a name to their anger or found their voice, but regrettably Sarah Palin may provide a real life heroine for their Harlequinesque predicament. She’s the beautiful, smart-mouthed political “rogue,” saying and doing what a Tea Party woman never dared. And, Sarah Palin aggressively courts these adulators to join her new band of Wannabees. She absolves these women of looking in the mirror for their part in this economic dilemma while pointing her bedazzled finger at Washington.
Will the Tea Party women’s new champion morph into a new political phenomenon requiring them to actually formulate a coherent political ideology? Or, will she merely facilitate their easy slide into familiar roles learned as teenagers and adolescents, becoming abject followers of their new Queen Bee and “Mean-Girl-in-Chief”?
Don’t kid yourself. Sarah is a Mean Girl adroit in classic Mean Girl tactics:
- She calls people names. Barack Obama is a community organizer. Levi Johnston is Ricky Hollywood. Bloggers are kids in pajamas.
- She starts rumors. Back in Wasilla, she insinuated that her mayoral opponent was Jewish as she claimed she would be the first Christian mayor of Wasilla – a Christian town. Barack Obama pals around with terrorists. The health care bill has death panels.
- She blames others for her problems. When she couldn’t answer Katie Couric’s simple interview questions, Palin claimed to be the victim of “gotcha” journalism. When she was called out for wearing designer clothes on the campaign trail, it was the RNC’s fault. When her choice for Alaska’s Attorney General (Wayne Anthony Ross) wasn’t confirmed, she blamed the bloggers.
- She can’t admit a mistake. Her rollercoaster performance during the Presidential campaign was blamed on McCain senior staffers, not a bit of postpartum depression, or even the start of peri-menopause. When she had to pay the state back for family travel expenses, she blamed the state’s dizzying and circular rules. When caught looking at cheat notes on her palm during a cream puff interview, she took a swipe at the President, stating she had to use a “poor man’s teleprompter.” Newsflash Sarah, you’re not poor anymore.
What’s most troubling, Sarah Palin can’t apologize for or correct her mistakes. Not only is this the main characteristic of a Mean Girl; it’s the worst trait for a leader. To never admit you are wrong about anything is bad enough. To never correct a mistake is more than divisive and anti-Christian; it’s out-and-out dangerous. You can never, ever solve a problem if you refuse its origin.
No offense (which is a Mean Girl way to announce you’re about to say something offensive and don’t really care), but when those on the whacky fringes like the Tea Party movement become disrespectful, physical and violent, a credible leader strives to tone down obvious violent rhetoric. But that’s not Palin. She’s doubled down on dangerous talk in order to be right, to get her way. Who will she blame if it backfires (sorry)?
However, there is a way to defeat the Mean Girl. Beat her at her own game. I don’t mean lobbing typical Mean Girl comebacks like, “You wouldn’t have to call the media lame if you weren’t so lame yourself,” or “You’re just jealous that I’m a community organizer because you’re such a community divider.”
Don’t take her seriously. Don’t micro-manage, let her have a long leash, let her obvious social anxieties take further hold of her reason. Don’t give more weight to her middle school allegiances. However, not giving her weight would mean ignoring her, the ultimate defeat, which unfortunately will be tough since the media can’t get enough of her, and it’s the negative attention that feeds this beast.
Fortunately, adults don’t usually play by the same rules as those stuck in high school. Adults pride themselves on the honesty of their relationships and don’t shun people for wearing a particular brand of shoes, or a particular brand of political beliefs. As attractive a figure as Palin at first blush appears to some, like every Mean Girl she will end up simply damaging the self-esteem of women in the Tea Party and the country.
To get the attention of the Tea Party woman away from the shiny object that is Sarah Palin, it will be necessary to get the economy going. Get those kids and husbands out of her hair and back to work. And, don’t forget Grandma, she wants to get the hell out of Dodge. Get the housing market humming so Granny can move, kit and kaboodle, to Vegas.
Finally, Tea Party woman needs to understand some basic things about civility in politics. Traditionally, a get-out-the-vote campaign graphic is a check mark on a ballot, not a sight and crosshairs over a congressional district. Anyone who claims to not understand the difference is a liar. And, the Tea Party woman should know that today’s Palin courtier is tomorrow’s Palin bootlick.

Ms. Kettle calling the Pot black. How ironic! Name calling? I suppose calling someone “menopausal”, “angry”, and “mean” are just terms of endearment? Let’s see- Gov. Plain refers to Barack as a “community organizer”. Funny- that’s what Barack called himself. Suddenly, it’s a disparaging term? She spreads rumors- fact: Barack DOES “pal around” with terrorists. Bill Ayers was a convicted terrorist. He started his campaign in Ayers’ living room. Health care HAS Death Panels- fact. It’s already been established that those of a certain age and certain medical history will have treatment decided for them by “panels”- call them what you will. I could go on and on, point by point, and blow you and your comments out of the water, but as a typical liberal, you just don’t get it. Do us all a favor- don’t take her seriously. Ignore her speeches, don’t comment on comment boards and blogs. Great for our team! Because when you least expect it, the next thing you’ll be writing about is the inauguration of our first woman President, but that won’t be good enough for you because she wasn’t on YOUR side. What a joke!

I would like Sarah to continue on with her incredible career. She can maybe be a role model for those young women who have a desire to make complete fools of themselves, under the guise of some sort of whacky Christian based ideology.
She is the best thing for the Democrats….

Geno, you obviously need to learn the definition of “fact”. President Obama did not “pal around” with Bill Ayers. They happened to be professors at the same university. (But Palin sure seems to be getting pretty chummy with the right wing militia groups who are themselves terrorists.) There ARE NO DEATH PANELS in the health care bill. But just let Fox keep telling you what to think. The only “point by point” you can go on with are the lies that are spread by Sarah Palin and her ilk. Try reading a newspaper.

So Kathy, because Barack attended a get together with a former “terrorist”, who was no more terror inspiring than Palin or most GOP, that makes him a terrorist? Guilt by association means you need to be tried as well.

Eh Geno…..You’re wrong dear Palinbot. Bill Ayers was never convicted of terrorism. there ARE NO DEATH PANELS. Please show us page number where medical care will be denied to anyone because of age or well being. It’s NOT there. We someday will see a woman President. It will NOT be Sarah Palin. She won’t run for President because she cannot compete with others who are actually educated. I live in Ketchikan AK and believe me, she couldn’t get elected to office again in this state, well maybe as dog catcher, for any money. She is now a millionaire, lives on a dead lake in the middle of meth heaven, can’t control her own kids and gives the Clampetts a bad name. Maybe you should read something besides her facebook page.

You can, really? Please I wanna hear about these ‘death panels’ you are describing. Cause I read the bill and there is nothing like that there, so I would love to read your ‘facts’.
Also, your POTUS/Bill Ayers link is pure humor, but that’s ok. It has been refuted months ago but you keep trying to ride that dead horse.

Gov. Plain – der, might one suggest you calm down prior to your typing so you don’t make such an obvious and dare I say funny oops!
Read the HC plan – no there are no death panels
Try to not believe everything the right shoves down your throat
Have an original thought of your own
Try getting your facts from “credible” folks on both side of the fence
To only read, follow and engage in conversation with those that share your opinion is akin to having your head in the sand.
Wake up, knowledge is beautiful and will enlighten you.

Geno,
I always love when Sarah said Obama palled around with terrorist and did not realize she sleeps with a traitor. After all her husband belonged to a political party that promotes Alaska leaving the United States. If I am not mistaken actively trying to get your state to succeed from the union is technically a treasonous act. The only saving grace is they do not resort to violence, so no one would prosecute them.
Maybe Sarah did not know the goals of the party. Oh I forgot for a moment, she knows all about that party. She was the lead speaker for the party’s convention in 2008. It was taped, but she was the first speaker for the Alaskan Independence Party. Who ended her speech by saying “We all support the constitution of Alaska.” Not one word about the our country’s constitution.
You can see her speech here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI
Bill Ayers is not a convicted felon. I do suggest checking out wikipedia if You want a fairly concise review of his history. Did Obama know Bill Ayers? yes. In a history of the relationship between the two done by the NY times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/04/us/politics/04ayers.html?_r=1 they met in 1995. They were on the same board that distributed grants in Chicago. Yes one of the coffees where State Senator Alice J. Palmer introduced Obama as her chosen succor at Bill Ayers house, but it was not the first coffee where Senator Palmer had done so. In 1997 Bill Ayers was named Chicago citizen of the year. He was also considered a well known advocate for children and education.
The book where Ayers admits he was a terrorist in the 1960s did not come out until September 2001. There is no evidence of any contact between them shortly after that book came out (They were on the same board in 2002) Is there any evidence they were close? no. So about the best you can say is Obama ended his association with Ayers shortly after Ayers admitted to his terrorist acts.
Death panels, if you do a simple fact check with any of the independent fact check sites, you will find this is false claim. The only death panels I know of were done by the health insurance companies. Here is an example. A 2007 investigation by a California state regulatory agency, the California Department of Managed Health Care, bore this out. The DMHC randomly selected 90 instances in which Anthem Blue Cross of California, one of WellPoint’s largest subsidiaries, canceled the insurance of policy holders after diagnoses with costly or life-threatening illnesses to determine how many were legally justified.
The result: The agency concluded that Anthem Blue Cross lacked legal grounds for canceling policies in every single instance.
“In all 90 files, there was no evidence (that Blue Cross), before rescinding coverage, investigated or established that the applicant’s omission/misrepresentation was willful,” the DMHC report said.
So every single one of the “facts” you point out are wrong. Please do continue, hopefully eventually you will actually come out with truthful fact, but if most your information comes the “color” people (eg Glen Beck and crew) on FOX or from Rush, it is doubtful many of your facts are actually true.

Fantastic Post – a great read, and absolutely true in more ways than one.
Geno: You are obviously an idiot. Menopausal, angry, and mean are not examples of name-calling. Your “team” is not a “team” at all, it is mostly just a cult comprised of the most ignorant, brainless, and bigoted Americans there are in this country today.
Speaking of your moronic statement “pal around with terrorist”, I am still in disbelief that people like you use that statement (your Queen dumbass Sarah Palin invented that one). How do you explain the longstanding relationship between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family???!? Have you not seen so many pictures of them shaking hands, often over the weapons and defense contracts in which they both share in investments??? Think Geno – Use that thing that sits inside of your skull that is slowly withering away due to exposure to Sarah Palin, and try to salvage a few cells.
What you have recently spewed in your post is ridiculous heresay. You are still talking about mythical death panels, which do not and will not ever exist. Quit beating that dead horse buddy! Health care passed, and there still ain’t death panels!! Why are you so against the consumer protection laws that were put in place with Health care reform – it helps you and all of us! By the way, the people who decide those decisions now are the employees at Insurance companies whom you indirectly defend – They make the end of life decisions for the elderly, and believe me, they don’t play fair and ask which decision they want to pick! They make decisions based on the corporate bottom-line, which is profitability.
You feeble-minded lemming, so quick to believe the trash that comes out of Sarah Palin’s mouth. You guys idolize a Fox News Contributor, whom you would elect to the highest office in the world. What does that say about you and your “team”? You want to elect a hooked-on-phonics drop out to run this country. . . regardless, the great thing about America is, no matter how much crap you spew, Sarah Palin will never be President EVER. Why? Because there are enough people who are much smarter than you who would never lend their vote to a person who writes “Tax Cuts” on their hand for a cheat sheet. Listen – If a 4th grader giving a presentation in school read notes off of their hand, they would get an “F”. She would have looked better just using a damn index card or something, but instead she wanted to reveal to the world just how stupid a human being can really be. Bravo!
Moral of the Story: Don’t listen to people who only get their thoughts from FOX News, and don’t believe everything you hear on FOX news. They are as credible as the Onion when it comes to REAL news. [And I love the Onion]

Actually we have had “death panels” for sometime now stupid. They are called insurance companies. Insurance companies decide who lives and who dies. And I am completely against that, and so should any non-sociopathic American as well.
I am also a realist and know that those decisions have to be made. You can’t do open heart surgery on just anyone who wants/needs it. They have to be evaluated as to the possibility of that procedure prolonging their lives, AND the quality of the extended life. Someone has to decide whether the 94yr old man gets the lung from a donor or the 19yr old kid.. See these are why things like healthcare require grownups to talk about it, and decide whats going to happen. You aren’t smart enough, you just regurgitate what ever bumper sticker slogan pops into your teeny tiny dinosaur brain.
Sarah Palin is the dumbest of the annoying thundercunts on the right. They spew venom and horseshit faster and more furiously than anything I have ever seen. They can speak for 2hrs straight, and not say a single thing. Just a series of soundbites, thrown together to try and get a few minutes of precious airtime on the evening boobtube yakfests.

As a democrat that did not vote for President Obama because of his radical associations and quite a few other reasons Health Care being a big one..Ladies we have spent 30 years trying to keep the government off of our bodies and to keep our right to choose..why is it all of a sudden okay for the government to be all over our bodies and our health choices. Insurance companies suck..no doubt about that but I have read these health care bills until I have gone practically blind and there is nothing in it for us. It is about unionizing health care workers. 2900 pages of bullshit!
As far as Sarah goes, okay I have a grandson with special needs; she got me on that one, I raised some pesky teenagers, she got me there..you all keep calling her dumb and I see her laughing all the way to the bank. I think she is smart like a fox..
I am seriously considering changing my registration to Independent for the first time in my life…it was that picture of Nancy Pelosi walking through a crowd of Americans with that huge gavel in her hand that was the last straw for me..the arrogance..I just cannot take it anymore..

Excellent Kathy! You have been bookmarked!
As far as the ‘special needs’ kid goes – he’s not her natural born child, and is used only when the camera’s are rolling. the poor child – prop – is not getting the love and care of a mother he needs, nor is he getting the early intervention he needs to develop basic skills.
Her kids are low lifes. Palin was more concerned with her career than her children. They too are props. Parading a knocked up teen around and then crying ‘family values!’ is insulting to those of us who actually teach our children the values of Chasity, and marriage. Were you also aware both Sarah and her own dear mother Sally were expecting children PRIOR to their weddings as well? Apples don’t fall far from the tree. Willow plea barginged her way out of a very embarrassing drunken night of fun and frolic where sex, drugs and vandalism took place. Parents were in hawaii. Why they did not take Willow – beyond me.
When I want an example of a person in politics with true family values, I’ll look to Obama and I’ll look to his opponent – Mitt Romney. Palin is fake, and those that follow her are stupid.

Did you practically go blind before you started reading? I am sure you really plowed through all 2900 pages tirelessly. . .
Also, come on, you don’t think what Palin did with her 5th pregnancy was risky? Getting pregnant over 40, much less at 44 years old? Flying in a pressurized airplane cabin while 36 weeks pregnant!??! 36 WEEKS! You know, that is just reckless.
Finally, wow – yeah the arrogance of essentially one of the most powerful women in the world waving a gavel, after passing the most monumental health care reform in history. The nerve of her to try and extend health care to 32 million Americans who could not afford buying it! Gosh, it makes me so angry when someone fights so selflessly for a great cause that is admirable because it is advocates helping under-privileged Americans! And then, to see her wave that gavel really makes my blood boil!
Why, if you have a grandson with special needs, do you oppose this bill? He will be protected against pre-existing conditions should he need to change health care?? You live that situation – Why can’t you understand that!??!?!

Nancy Pelosi with her “huge gavel” – do you know the importance of that gavel? Do you understand the symbolism? Arrogance – SHE is the speaker of the house – the FIRST woman ever in the US to be the SotH. Palin couldn’t even handle her job as a governor and quit.

Excellent post, KathyGregg! What about the men? Male menopause, or simply lust for the custey winky schtick that they don’t feel for their ugly angry menopausal wives?
While on the subject of mean girl:
On Thursday, 3/25/10 in Tennessee, Harry Weisiger committed an atrocious road rage by ramming his SUV into another car with a man and his 10 year old daughter and pushing the car 50 feet, all because of an Obama/Biden bumper sticker on the car. Two days later, on Saturday 3/27, Sarah CURIOUSLY added a NEW LINE to her stagnant regurgitated speech:
“That bumper sticker that maybe you’ll see on the next Subaru driving by — an Obama bumper sticker — you should stop the driver and say, ‘So how is that hopey, changey thing working out for ya?'”
There is no doubt in my mind that Sarah had heard of this incident and found it amusing in her warped way of thinking, and added it to her otherwise ad nauseum script.

The problem with tea baggers is that they look at a large diverse group of people and assign a few negative characteristics to all of them. It is teh very definition of prejudice to put down an entire group based on the attributes of one of their members. It was done to blacks and to Jews, to Women, the disabled…..
And, thanks to this blog, it is being done to not only the tea party movement, but all conservatives. And here I was worried that only male conservatives could be hate mongers! If you inserted the word “minority” for “tea bagger” or “Palin” in teh above screed, you would readily see the similarities to you and a KKK member.
Thanks for your demonstration of prejusdice and hate!

Wow. Great penmanship, Joe! And I like the “KKK” touch there. Its just that, well, who exactly are you slamming here? Kathy? Or She-Rah Pail-In?

The problem with tea baggers is – they have no idea what do they stand for.
So, with their stupidity they are very easy to manipulate with.
That what Reps always did and do and will.

Nice article. I hadn’t thought about the TP women, they are drowned out by the grotesque men. Thanks for pointing out the effects of the economy on the women. And how improved economy might lessen the mean.

Great piece! Your rhetoric is a bullseye and once again thank you for the piece. How could anyone take Sarah Palin seriously anyway the only reason for her rise to shame is because the RNC was looking to manipulate WOMEN voters. If Hillary would have been Obama’s running mate we would have never ever heard of this narrowed-minded instigating simpleton. She was given a great opportunity for future women in politics as being a innovator but she failed and continues to spew hogwash.

Sweet simple Sarah is making too much money to waste time to run for President. She does not care about you. She only wants your money. Buy her books, send your hard earned money to her PAC. All your contributions will get you is a great big nothing.

Doreen,
Tri-G Palin IS a prop, she named him Trig after the medical abbreviation for Trisomy-G, i.e. Down syndrome. Sarah cannot produce his birth certificate because it would prove he was born in January 2008, not on 4-18-08. Bristol had “Irish twins” (Trig and Tripp born within one year of each other).
Read for yourself:
http://palingates.blogspot.com/search/label/babygate
And Sarah was pregnant with Track Menard before she married Todd:

Jealous??? Hell no!

This is true, Bristol’s vagina was workin’ overtime which is not good when you’re trying to sell your family into media slavery.

Buttercup Quittypants!
I laughed so loud when I read this, I scared my cat. Brilliant.
Thanks Kathy Gregg for a well-written, insightful, post. Clearly, Miss Quittypants is still trying to break into the Popular Crowd, which she obviously aspired to in her teens. There seem to be alot of those ‘oh, where did I go wrong!?’ menopausal ladies out there trying to jump-start their high school-level arrested development.
Lamentably, some people never grow up.

I enjoyed this. I think what bothers me the most about politics is that both parties have moved so far from what they actually should be.
It also amuses me that most of the right-wingers on here were the first to sling harsh words and hate at someone who simply posted her thoughts on her blog. My response to you lot: QQmore; also see: Cry more, it’s the internet and people have opinions.
Sarah Palin is not intelligent. As a woman, I do not want her to be the first female president. And this isn’t anything against or for either party. The woman is dumb as a fucking brick. All electing her to the white house would do is push back everything women have been working to achieve: Equality.
Just like there are people berating Obama and thinking themselves justified in saying “We never should have elected an African American (see racial slur) to the White House.” Electing her will cause the same backlash, but they’ll feel even more justified because she is an idiot. Where as we know Obama to be an educated man.

Wonder how all the liberal dims in Alaska that slam Sarah every day are feeling now that “The Chosen One” has decided to “Drill Baby Drill” only on his terms which will cost Alaskans money. Hahahaha I love it. Because you KNOW Sarah Palin would NEVER have done this to the state she loves. Eat your heart out Alaskin libbies and continue to cherish The ONE in awe. LOL hahahaha too funny.

Sorry, Kathy, but unlike caribou barbie, Obama didn’t run on drill baby drill.
It’s called REALITY. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what happens in politics. When you’re the president, sometimes you have to make hard decisions like that. Realistically, while I would like to be oil free we still need a supply of oil. I’m actually more comfortable with Obama making that decision since I know he’s actually thought about the positives and negatives of drilling.
Palin won’t run for president for one simple reason-she can’t win in the Republican Primaries. No other Republican would resist tearing her down.

While on the subject of the teabaggers, Archivist has a great article again, (also, too) and I loved the apt description of Sarah bin Palin and the Teahadists!
http://archivist.leapserve.com/featured-post/sarah-palin-the-teabaggers-bin-laden/
Archivist also keeps a running list of the ignorant comments of the Palinbots. It hurts my eyes to see their atrocious spelling and grammar, but it makes my heart ache to see Americans being manipulated by the lies of Palin, Bachmann, Boehner, McConnell, DeMint, etc. who fan the flames of such vile hatred.

The problem is actually not with palin ( she could be whatever she wants, just does not need to pretent for any respect) , but with people, who follow her lies and her “reload” thing – anger grows, and even kids do not see anything unusual to bull calssmate to death.
And sarah is bulling.
Bulling voted.
Bulling society.
She is bulling our female nature of kindness and understanding.
She is bulling all that is best in America – our Union of American people.
That what we should fight against .

Why aren’t you blogging more, Kathy? This was great. It was just the antidote I needed when a self-proclaimed Tea Party Conservative Tennis-playing Evanston mom Twittered today in Mean Girl fashion about the tragedy at our middle school, using it to stir her own political cauldron and suck us all into the fray. It was shameful. I was tempted — sorely tempted — but I ignored her.
Thanks for the validation, the laugh and for including me on your blogroll.
Write more posts.
